How Great Are Bucks County Schools?
Ok, a typical scenario that I often hear is:
"I'm moving to the area and I'm looking for a safe, quiet neighborhood with a great school district for my 2 little ones, what would you suggest?"
Well, how much time do we have here? I could go on and on...
Although this person relocating has given me a few hints as to their priorities, I would still ask a couple more questions just to narrow down the choices a bit.
My first question would be "what's your price range?" And follow-up questions would include "Newer or older home? City center or more rural? What do you consider 'safe'?"
You'd be hard pressed to find any neighborhood in Bucks County that would be considered truly "unsafe", especially when compared to a big city like Philadelphia, or any other national statistics.
The reason being, for all of the questions to any prospective home buyer, is that within Bucks County, as well as neighboring Montgomery County, you will most definitely find "different strokes for different folks".
If you are wanting something "newer", then you can expect to pay anywhere from mid to upper $300K for a new townhome, all the way up to $1 million or more for a single family home. But, if it is something more "antique", or "colonial" that you are after, then with the majority of older homes being 50+ years old, they are prime candidates for a beautiful restoration makeover, so have at it and enjoy! (I actually LOVE restoring antique homes!)
Philadelphia Magazine started ranking Pennsylania school districts in 2005 and this past year's list for 2008 has Bucks County in the numbers 7, 10 and 15 spots (out of 105 schools) for New Hope-Solebury, Central Bucks and Council Rock school districts, respectively! You can see (and download) the entire list and the criteria used right here if you are interested: Top 50+ School Districts
The New Hope-Solebury and Doylestown school districts always get good marks, but it would be tough to find a "bad" school district in any part of Bucks County. You can also check out a different ranking system right here for yourself at School Matters.
And if it is simply a list of schools, broken down by area for pre-school, elementary, middle and high schools, then you can also go here to GreatSchools.net
Any way you slice it, you and your children will love living in Bucks County!
