Reenactment George Washington & Troops Crossing Delaware River

Most people don't remember that Christmas Day 1776 changed the course of our country.

One of the coolest things to do on Christmas (especially if you're a history buff who wants a bit of a break from the gift-giving and food-eating) is to visit the Re-enactment of George Washington and his troops crossing the Delaware River during the Revolutionary War in 1776.

The re-enactors leave from exact site (now Washington Crossing State Park in Upper Makefield Township) where General Washington's Continental Army crossed the Delaware River on a frigid Christmas night in treacherous, choppy waters, horses and all, and marched to Trenton, New Jersey where they attacked and defeated Hessian troops quartered there.  That surprise attack, changed the outcome of the Revolutionary War and the future of our country (http://www.ushistory.org/washingtoncrossing).

The event is from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm.  The Crossing starts at 1:00 pm.  Go see it - I promise you "goose bumps" when you see the men all dressed in uniform and the Durham Boats (replicas) heading out.  The fabulous Visitors' Center and gift shop (in case you still need a gift) will be open, admission is free, and you can buy hot chocolate and coffee to keep warm.

It's well worth the visit!  Go have fun.  And celebrate a wonderful holiday with family and friends.

Merry Christmas, and see you next year!

Gail
