There is certainly something about Bucks County that words just cannot describe.

Call it "old-world", call it "quaint", call it a bunch of other words that conjure up the thoughts of days gone by, but the word that I like to use is "cultured".

Maybe it's our deep-rooted history of English Quaker settlers dating back to the late 1600s when William Penn arrived from England and immediately dubbed our region "Buckingham" because it reminded him so much of his home country. I'm not sure. But, I know having lived in this area my entire life, that there is a "stoic-ness" and sense of pride like no other place that I've experienced when I've traveled outside this region.

Today, Bucks County is chock full of English, as well as German references which add to the allure and mystery of its humble beginnings. There are fascinating stories surrounding the boros and how they each got started and earned their different names, as well as the incredible architecture signifying the culture and heritage of the time.

I've even scrounged up an old map from the early 1700s below to show you how it all began...

You can also read a short, but nice summary over at Getaway Travel Guides about New Hope and Bucks County at the link that I've provided here.

There are lots of great websites on the history of this region, I couldn't even begin to name or list them all here. You can simply google them and be inundated with information!

The point of this post is to remind you of the magical place that we live and the rich history that it carries with it.

It is so easy to take for granted. Enjoy it and appreciate it every day!

I hope that you have a great week,

Gail
