Covered Bridge

Ok, today I'd like to take a step back in history to when times were much simpler.

Luckily, here in Bucks County, we have constant daily reminders of "times past" and the beauty of simplicity, and probably according to most big-city folk running around catching cabs, subways and airplanes, we still live a pretty quiet and simple life here in Bucks County.

But, all of this nostalgia and gratitude for living here is not the point of today's post, but rather to talk about a dying breed: the covered bridge!

An absolutely fascinating history of the "Covered Bridge" and its debut in the United States in 1800 right here in Pennsylvania can be found over at the Bucks County Covered Bridge Society who is doing a great job restoring and protecting our historical legacy with what is left of these cherished treasures.

There used to be more than 1500 covered bridges in all of Pennsylvania and 54 in Bucks County alone.

Now, only 12 remain, how sad.

You can see a list of them below and link here for a better description of each:

That's it for this week...

Have a good one,
